Is Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski the Greatest College Coach Ever?

Is Mike Krzyzewski the greatest college coach ever? Well, as everyone knows, the Duke Blue Devils are the team that college basketball fans love to hate. So, of course, most readers are probably rolling their eyes at the mere thought of Coach K being considered as the best ever. But, if for one moment, we could take emotion out of the equation, and take a look at Coach K’s brilliant career, then we might be better able to answer the question.

Coach K began his career with Duke in 1980.This/tag helps explain it more. In the last 30 years while coaching the program, he has made an undeniable impact on college basketball. Aside from winning a staggering amount of awards over the years, he has coached his team to 11 Final Fours, with four of them culminating in national championships. In 2001 he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. He also led the U.S.A. Men’s Olympic Team to a gold medal in the 2008 summer games. Right now he holds the honor of being the active coach with the most wins at 900, even more impressive, with 3 more victories he will pass Bob Knight to become the college basketball coach with the most wins ever.

Coach K is beloved by his players and Cameron Crazies alike. In fact, in November, 2000 the Cameron Indoor Stadium basketball court was renamed Coach K Court in his honor. The student faithful have also dubbed the area outside of Cameron where they camp out, for months at a time, waiting for tickets “Krzyzewskiville”.

Even the most die-hard anti-Duke fans have trouble arguing with Coach K’s stellar coaching record. His outstanding career, and the impact that he has had on the game of basketball make a strong agrument for him being dubbed the greatest coach ever.
